Why I am doing it.
Monday 29th JunDemelza delivers extraordinary care to extraordinary children who are facing serious or life-limiting conditions throughout Kent, South East London, and East Sussex. We are here for them and their families with expert clinical, emotional, and practical support at every step from first diagnosis and for as long as we are needed. When they need us most, we will be there to reassure, to guide, and to care—standing by their side when they feel isolated, helping to create joy in family life during challenging times, and making precious memories. Demelza believes in care that doesn't back down.
Taking on the marathon for Demelza is more than just a race; it is the challenge of a lifetime for me. Pushing my body through 26 miles is a daunting physical and mental hurdle, but the motivation behind every step makes it secondary to the cause. I have always felt a deep pull to support a children’s hospice because I believe every child deserves the chance to experience joy, comfort, and "making memories," regardless of the hand they’ve been dealt. While the training will be grueling and the distance will test my limits like nothing else has, knowing that the funds raised will provide expert clinical care and emotional support to families facing their darkest hours is what will carry me across the finish line.
Although I don’t have children of my own, my world is filled with the laughter and energy of my nieces and nephews. Watching them grow and play reminds me daily of how precious—and fragile—childhood truly is. It breaks my heart to think of any child being denied those simple moments of play or any family struggling to cope with a life-limiting condition without a safety net. Running for Demelza is my way of honoring the love I have for the children in my life—Clemmie, Otto, Verity, Alfie, and Emelia. This isn't just about personal achievement; it’s about ensuring that Demelza can continue to be a light for extraordinary children and their families when they need it most.
