The Road to London has hit a bit of a brick wall…

The last few weeks haven’t quite gone to plan for us, and our Road to London has re-routed north for a bit.
Pete is currently resting an injury, while family circumstances have stopped me in my tracks too. My mum is in hospital at the moment, so my brother and I have been sharing round-the-clock care of my dad at home — something my mum was previously doing.
I’ve been splitting my time between my family in Kent and my parents in Northampton, so training has had to go on the back burner for now.
My brother and I took a little time out a couple of weeks ago, to run the Amazing Northampton Run. It’s a special one for us as it's our hometown half marathon and something we run together every year.
We crossed the finish line and carried straight on to the hospital to see Mum. Sweaty hugs all round!
Just as London was becoming a little more real, suddenly other things became much more important. But that’s life.
Hopefully Pete and I can get back to doing what we love soon, but for now the Road to London is taking a little detour.
We’re still here, still fundraising for Demelza, and still hoping to get ourselves to that start line in April.
Thank you to everyone who has supported us so far, through donations, playlist tunes, messages, encouragement and following our journey. It means a lot.
The Road to London continues… just a little more slowly for now. 🏃♀️🏃♂️💙
Our Road to London: Long Runs, Demelza House & Our Training Playlists 🎵🏃♂️🏃♀️

Training for the TCS London Marathon 2027 is starting to feel a little more real!
Last week, Lindsey and I met up for a long run together and clocked up just over 16km. Our route took us right past Demelza House, so of course we had to stop for a photo.
It was a lovely reminder of exactly why we’re doing all of this.
Over the coming months there are going to be a lot more miles, plenty of long winter runs and probably a few moments when we question why we signed ourselves up for another marathon! 😂 But knowing that we’re doing it to support Demelza and the incredible care they provide for children with serious or life-limiting conditions and their families makes those miles mean something.
And we’ve found a way for you to come along for some of them too… through music! 🎵
Lindsey and I are both building our own London Marathon training playlists, and we’re asking our friends, family and supporters to help create them.
The idea is simple: make a donation to our Demelza fundraising page and choose a song for one of our playlists. It can be a brilliant running song, an old favourite, something completely ridiculous, or simply a track that reminds us of you.
Then, when your song comes on during one of those cold, dark winter training runs, we’ll know exactly who put it there. ❤️
My playlist is already taking shape, with everything from Dua Lipa and Florence + The Machine to Journey and S Club 7 — so there really are no rules! 😂
We’d love to add plenty more.
So, who wants to claim the next song? 🎵
Thank you so much to everyone who has already donated, chosen a song, shared our posts or supported us. It genuinely means a lot.
There are many more miles still to come.

Saxon Shore Half Marathon – another step on our Road to London

Sunday saw another few miles added to our Road to London as Lindsey and I took on the Saxon Shore Half Marathon.
We've run plenty of miles together over the years, including the Brighton Marathon in 2024 and Amstelveen Marathon in 2025, so it was great to get another race under our belts as we start looking ahead to the TCS London Marathon 2027.
This one was also a bit of a family affair! My husband Gavin somehow got persuaded to join us and completed his first ever half marathon – a brilliant achievement and hopefully not his last! Lindsey's husband Nick also came along to support us, so there was plenty of encouragement waiting for us.
After 13.1 miles, there was only one sensible way to celebrate – a trip to the Old Neptune in Whitstable for a very well-earned drink and some food. 🍻
Days like this are a big part of why we love running. Yes, there are finish times and medals, but it's also about sharing the miles, having a laugh and enjoying everything that comes afterwards.
Our next big challenge together will be considerably further: 26.2 miles through London in April 2027, when we'll be running as part of #TeamDemelza and raising money for Demelza.
We're only at the beginning of our fundraising journey, and we've got lots planned over the coming months. We'll be sharing our training, fundraising events and probably quite a few more post-run drinks along the way!
Our Road to London has officially begun. 💜🏃♂️🏃♀️

Join us on our journey to London 2027!
We are incredibly excited to be taking on the TCS London Marathon 2027, running together as part of Team Demelza.
Friends for 25 years, running has more recently become a big part of our friendship. We both run with the Sittingbourne Striders and have already shared two finish lines together - Brighton 2024 and Amstelveen 2025.
And now we're heading to London!
This one is particularly special, as we'll be running to raise money for Demelza, our local children's hospice. Demelza provides extraordinary care and support for children with serious or life-limiting conditions, as well as their families.
As The Whitwaders (Pete from Whitstable and Lindsey from Iwade!), we'll be sharing our training journey, organising fundraising events, and doing everything we can to raise as much as possible for this incredible charity.
Every donation, no matter how big or small, will help Demelza continue to be there for local children and families when they need them most.
Thank you for supporting The Whitwaders as we Run London 2027!
