Raffle Terms and Conditions

These terms apply to separate lotteries run by Demelza Trading Limited:

a) The Thumbs Up Raffle main draw, £1 per ticket and
b) The Thumbs Up Raffle Golden Ticket bonus draw, no ticket price; entry is conditional on returning a valid Golden Ticket with your main draw entry by the stated deadline. This draw is an offline promotion, entries are only accepted from those that receive a golden ticket in the post.

The two draws are separate, a win in one does not imply any win in the other.


1 - Promoter and licensing
1.1 Demelza Trading Limited (“Demelza Trading”), a wholly‑owned subsidiary of Demelza Hospice Care for Children (Charity No. 1039651; Company No. 03090528). Registered address: Rook Lane, Bobbing, Sittingbourne, Kent, ME9 8DZ.
1.2 Demelza Trading is licensed and regulated in Great Britain by the Gambling Commission under account number 4802. Person responsible for the lottery, Lavinia Jarrett and Hayley Richardson.
1.3 The raffles are conducted under the Gambling Act 2005 and associated regulations, CAP/BCAP Advertising Codes and the Fundraising Regulator’s Code of Fundraising Practice.
 
2 - Eligibility
2.1 Entrants must be aged 18 or over and reside in Great Britain (England, Scotland or Wales) for the main draw. Tickets sold to or for anyone under 18, or purchased from outside Great Britain, are void and will be refunded.
2.2 The Golden Ticket bonus draw entry is only open to recipients of the main raffle mailing who reside in Kent, South East London or East Sussex. The Golden Ticket must be returned with their main raffle entry by the published deadline (see section 6). Entries without the supplied address label affixed are invalid.
2.3 Staff directly associated with the Lottery, Senior Leadership Team or Board of Trustees are not eligible to enter the draw.
2.4 Demelza reserves the right to undertake age and identity verification checks and to void entries that do not comply.
 
3 - How to enter
3.1 Each entry costs £1 per ticket. Tickets are non-transferable.
3.2 Return the completed ticket stubs and payment by the closing date (Section 6). Do no detach the stubs from the ticket spine.
3.3 Payment methods accepted, debit card cheque or cash.
3.4 Credit card payment will not be accepted for transactions made remotely. Remotely relates to payments made online (through our website) or over the telephone.
3.5 Credit card transactions will be accepted for transactions made non-remotely. Non-remotely relates to payments made through the post or face-to-face.
3.6 The maximum number of tickets that can be purchased in a single transaction is 200.
3.7 The purchaser’s name, full address, confirmation of age over 18 and payment for entry is required for entry. For online entries we also require entrants to confirm their date of birth.
3.8 Funds received before the draw has taken place will be held in advance and refunds will only be given if it is deemed there has been an underage sale, or that a sale has been made to a person who could be considered vulnerable.
3.9 No refund can be given after the draw has taken place, unless because of our negligence.
3.10 It is the responsibility of the purchaser to ensure their details held by us are correct.
 
4 - Key Dates
4.1 The Main Draw closing date is 23.59 on Tuesday 24 March 2026.
4.2 The drawing of tickets for the Main Draw is Friday 27 March 2026.
4.3 The Golden Ticket closing date is Monday 2 March 2026.
4.4 The drawing of the Golden Ticket draw Thursday 5 March 2026.
4.5 If the draw must be deferred for operational reasons, we will hold it as soon as practicably possible and will notify entrants via reasonable channels.
4.6 The draws will be completed on these designated dates at the Demelza Kent site, Rook Lane, Bobbing, Sittingbourne, Kent, ME9 8DZ by an individual partial to Demelza Trading Limited.
 
5 - The Golden Ticket Bonus Draw
5.1 The Golden Ticket draw has no ticket price and to qualify for entry you must return your Golden Ticket with your main draw entry by the Golden Ticket deadline (Section 6).
5.2 The supplied Golden Ticket address label must be affixed exactly as indicated.
5.3 Incomplete, late or missing labels are invalid.
5.4 Recipients residing in Kent, South East London or East Sussex are eligible for this bonus draw.
5.5 The prize is a private Vineyard & Winery tour and tasting certificate for four at Simpsons’ Wine Estate, plus a magnum of Classic Cuvée. Total value of prize is £285 and there is no cash alternative.
5.6 The Golden Ticket Draw is entirely separate from the main draw, entries are not pooled and prizes are not linked. Marketing materials will not suggest an automatic win or a link.
 
6 - Prizes and Notification
6.1 The prizes for the Main Draw, as promoted on the website and the printed mailing include a top (1st) prize of £5,000, a 2nd prize of £1,000, 3rd prize of £250, 4th prize of £100 and 6 prizes of £25.
6.2 The Golden Ticket prize as in section 4.5 is subject to the provider’s terms, including date availability and age restrictions. There is no cash alternative.
6.3 The first prize that is drawn will win the first prize. The second ticket that is drawn will win second prize and so on. This process will continue until a total of ten tickets have been drawn. The draw will be witnessed and the results recorded.
6.4 Winners will be contacted initially by telephone and/or in writing.
6.5 Demelza Trading Limited reserves the right to withhold the prize if we are not satisfied of the validity or legality of a purchaser, pending further investigation into the matter.
6.6 Winning ticket numbers are published on the Demelza website within 24 hours of the draw being completed.
6.7 The prizes will be issued by either a bank transfer or where this is not possible by cheque within 10 working days of the draw and only subject to satisfaction of section 6.5. Bank transfers will be payable to a bank account provided by the winner. Cheques will be sent to the winners by post to the address we have recorded for them.
6.8 Unclaimed cash prizes after 28 days may be treated as a donation to Demelza.
6.9 We may publish the surname and county of winners and/or winning ticket numbers in line with privacy law. Unless you opt out at or after notification.
 
7 - Proceeds and Odds
7.1 All proceeds after the deduction of prizes and expenses shall be deemed as a donation and transferred to Demelza.
7.2 The likelihood of winning any prize is 1 in 2,000, which is illustrative, dependent on the number of total entries.
7.3 It is estimated that the ticket proceeds will total £25,000. With the ticket proceeds split as follows, 26% spent on prizes, 28% spent on expenses, including printing, distribution and administration. The remaining 46% will be passed directly to Demelza.

8 - Responsible Gambling
8.1 We are committed to promoting socially responsible entries and ensuring that all lottery and raffle activities are conducted in accordance with the Gambling Commission’s licensing requirements and the UK Advertising Codes.
8.2 All marketing and promotional materials will be produced and delivered in a socially responsible manner.
8.3 We take particular care to ensure our communications do not appeal strongly to children, young people under 18, or any vulnerable groups and that they avoid content, imagery, personalities, or themes that could unduly attract their attention.
8.4 All advertising will avoid suggesting that gambling can solve financial difficulties, provide an escape from personal problems, or offer a route to success.

9 - Invalid, Void or Late Entries
9.1 Entries to the Main Draw received after the closing date will be treated as a donation or void for the Golden Ticket Draw at Demelza’s discretion.
9.2 Demelza is not responsible for lost, late, incomplete or illegible entries, or for postal or system failures beyond our control.
9.3 Where entries are void, Demelza will arrange a refund to the original payment method where possible.
9.4 Demelza may cancel, suspend or amend a draw where required due to events outside its reasonable control, provided this does not materially disadvantage entrants.
 
10 - Data Protection and Privacy
10.1 Demelza processes personal data to administer the raffle, contact winners and meet regulatory obligations. Please see our Privacy Policy at Demelza.org.uk/privacy-policy.
10.2 We may share necessary data with regulated suppliers, such as print houses, mail handlers or payment processors under contract for raffle administration.
 
11 - Complaints and disputes
11.1 If you have a complaint, please contact the Lottery Team at lottery@demelza.org.uk or by telephone on 01795 845222.
11.2 If your complaint relates to the operation of the raffle and after following our complaints procedure, you feel that the dispute hasn’t been resolved then you can raise it with the Independent Betting Adjudication Service (IBAS). IBAS is a gambling specialist Alternative Dispute Resolution Service and adjudicates between gambling operators and their customers.
 
12 - Legal and Miscellaneous
12.1 These Terms and Conditions are the rules for the Thumbs Up Raffle, operated by Demelza Trading Limited. By entering the draw you agree to be bound by these rules.
12.2 The promoter’s decision is final on all matters relating to the raffles
12.3 Prizes are as stated, no interest is payable
12.4 Demelza accepts no liability for postal delays, system outages or late bank payments beyond our control.
12.5 Demelza Trading Limited reserves the right to update these Terms and Conditions at any time.

Entry in the Thumbs Up Raffle costs £1 per chance. Credit Card for online entries is not an acceptable form of payment, any entries made by credit card will be treated as a donation and your tickets will be void. Tickets must not be sold to or by any person under 18 years of age.
